The United Nations has approved its first global resolution focused on AI governance, while concerns continue to rise about AI-generated deepfakes influencing elections, the expanding role of autonomous weapons in regional conflicts, and the concentration of advanced computing resources within a small number of countries and major technology companies. Meanwhile, geopolitical rivalries, restrictions on semiconductor exports, and declining international trust have made meaningful global cooperation increasingly challenging.
In this context, an important question arises: Should strong governance mechanisms be put in place before AI development continues at full speed, or is the idea of comprehensive global AI governance ultimately an unrealistic political goal?
